WWE superstar Randy Orton was attacked by a fan at a live event in Cape Town, South Arica Tuesday night. Another WWE fan attending the show caught the sneak attack on camera and uploaded it to YouTube.

In the video, Randy Orton is entering the ring standing on the ropes, greeting the crowd in typical wrestling fashion. As Orton climbs the top rope of the far left corner of the ring a fan comes out of nowhere and delivers a low blow to the superstar.

Randy Orton fell off the turn buckle and landed on his side. Immediately security entered the ring and grabbed the fan as Orton sprang to his feet making a b-line for his attacker. Visibly angered by the attack, Orton went after the fan, but security was able to get the young man out of the ring before Orton reached him.

Orton was held back by a security guard and a referee as the fan was led out, but managed to get a kick in as the fan was taken through the bottom rope. Orton then returned to the spot where he was attacked and finished his intro.

On the opposite side of the ring Orton climbed to the turn buckle and started to flip off the crowd. Orton then jumped down from the rope, through his hands in the air and returned to the backstage area.

WWE often blends reality with TV fiction and it can sometimes be difficult to discern what is real and what is fake. "For The Win," a sports blog, believed the incident may have been staged, until the WWE issued an official statement regarding the Randy Orton attack.

"WWE.com has learned that Randy Orton was violently attacked by an audience member during a SmackDown World Tour Live Event on Cape Town, South Africa, yesterday evening. Footage of the attack was captured by a WWE fan and posted to YouTube, and shows the perpetrator striking Orton from behind. The matter is currently under investigation by local authorities, and the South African fan is being held in jail pending criminal charges. The extent of Orton's injuries are unknown at this time."
