A shooting near Capitol hill occurred on Thursday when authorities tried to stop a woman in a black Infiniti G37 Coupe. According to authorities, the chase began when the woman got involved in a heated verbal altercation with officers at a security checkpoint that blocked vehicles from approaching the White House.

As police cars arrived at the check point to assist the security guards, the woman decided to speed away, leading the police on a dangerous chase. The woman committed multiple traffic violations as she fled, including running through a number of red lights. An eyewitness captured the incident on video as the the woman traveled towards Capitol hill in the black Infiniti.

Squad cars tried to box the woman in order to force her to stop the vehicle. Authorities came out with their guns drawn and one officier even tried to open the passenger side door to disable the vehicle.

"At that point, the driver slammed into reverse, slammed into a cruiser, did a 180 (degree turn), took off, and at that point, there were a half dozen or so shots fired," D.C. resident Frank Schwing told CNN. The black Infiniti G37 coupe crashed into security barriers in the moment of chaos.

The shooting near U.S. Capitol hill prompted a fleet of emergency vehicles to arrive at the scene while Congress and surrounding offices were locked down. All occupants in all House office buildings including representatives and senators were lead to shelter and protected within the buildings.

"Close, lock and stay away from external doors and windows," the bulletin said. Authorities left nothing to chance and reacted to the gunshots with the utmost precaution. Ultimately, the lockdown was later lifted. Police believe the incident was isolated with no connection to terrorism.

"The timing on this was really kind of scary," said Republican Rep. Blake Farenthold of Texas. "Capitol Hill police are at a lower personnel level because of the shutdown."

According to reports on the shooting near U.S. Capitol hill, none of the shots were fired from the woman in the black Infiniti G37 coupe. Later, it is reported that the woman was in custody and was struck by a shot, or shots fired from the shooting. What's more, a small child, approximately 2 to 3 years old, was in the vehicle with the woman. The child is uninjured. Finally, a police officer was struck durin gthe traffic accident but the injuries are not life threatening.

UPDATE: The woman in the Infiniti G37 coupe was killed after police fired shots at the vehicle. Two officers were injured due to a car accident that occurred during the incident. Officials say that a 1-year-old girl was brought into custody and is in good condition.
