A 19-year-old man was served an 18-year jail term after reportedly shooting his stepfather who allegedly poured the beer over his mother during an argument.

The suspect was identified as Jarren Diego Garcia who was found guilty of shooting his stepfather, Mark Ramos, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

At the time, the 19-year-old allegedly overheard Ramos and his mother arguing in the front room of their home in Texas.

The mother, Bertha Garcia, was allegedly arguing with Ramos because the latter was not answering his phone on Mar. 5, 2021.

However, Garcia allegedly went to get a gun after the stepdad hurled a speaker at him so he could protect his mother and younger brother, KSAT reported.

“Is throwing a speaker across the room a substantial risk of death?” the prosecutor asked.

Ramos was shot six times with shell casings and unspent rounds that indicated that Garcia had followed him inside.

The court also found some inconsistencies in the testimonies of Garcia and his mother. This included Bertha Garcia allegedly pleading with his son not to shoot the deceased.

On the other hand, Ramos allegedly confronted the boys with keys in between his fingers and then grabbed a speaker that could have caused injuries.

“Jarren couldn’t have known what was in Mark Ramos’ head when he threw the speaker," defense attorney Charles Banker stated.

Further, Banker added that the woman was a victim of domestic violence for at least four years out of the nearly five years of marriage with Ramos. This was allegedly never reported to authorities.

The defense attorney went on to point out that had Ramos not gone into the house upset, they would have not been in court talking about the matter.

“A person who would do that is inexcusable,” he said.

Unfortunately, this argument was rejected by jurors. Garcia is now facing a potential life term behind bars.
