On Wednesday, a Georgia toddler was mauled to death by seven pit bull-mix dogs according to CBS affiliate WTOC.

The victim was 21-month-old Monica Renee Laminack. She wandered outside her home in Ellabell, Ga., after a family member who was watching her, fell asleep. The sheriff said at least three adult relatives were inside the home when the dogs killed the girl outside.

Her grandmother rushed outside with others to pull the dogs off the child, but it was too late.

Sheriff's office deputies were dispatched and found the child mauled by the dogs. Paramedics arrived and she was pronounced dead on the scene.

"When we got here and spoke to EMS, they told us that when they got here, she was already cold. There was nothing they could do," County Deputy Sheriff James Beatty said.

It seems as though how the toddler got outside by herself is still unknown, two scenarios were proposed by Beatty. Beatty said her 12-year-old brother may have brought her out to play and accidentally left her outside alone, or she may have gone out through the doggy door.

The seven dogs that attacked the toddler all lived at the victim's house. They were euthanized at the scene by Bryan County Animal Control.

"All the dogs had access to the house, nine dogs in all," Sheriff Clyde Smith said.

"She habitually played with dogs, all of them. But they drug her all over the yard. Something turned them on her. We don't know what."

The two other dogs at the residence were not involved in the brutal attack and where not put down.

The horrible tragedy is still being investigated by police.
