Trump Official Mocked for Insisting Americans 'Are Willing' to Work Migrants' Jobs: 'Then Why Haven't They?'

The Trump administration Secretary of Labor is being ridiculed online by social media users for insisting that Americans would be willing to do jobs usually conducted by migrants if given the opportunity.

Lori Chavez-DeRemer made the bold statement during an appearance on Fox & Friends on Wednesday.

"What happened to the threat from the left that American citizens won't do the jobs that illegal immigrants are willing to do? Because, when I look at these numbers I think, nope, the American citizen is willing to do those jobs," one host told Chavez-DeRemer.

"Well, we see it in the numbers Americans are willing to do the job. That's what we're out there to do. What we have to give them is the opportunity to have those jobs. That they can be skilled, upscaled, re-skilled. We're moving around the country, one million new apprentices is my goal for the President. We're well on our way, we've increased that by over 170,000 new apprentices since he took office and we'll reach that one million goal for the American businesses so they have the workforce that they need. And again, those decisions are going to be on behalf of the American men and women of this country who have built this country," Chavez-DeRemer responded.

Social media users quickly took to online platforms to mock Chavez-DeRemer's rhetoric.

"Then why haven't they been doing 'the jobs?'" questioned one.

"Let's see how many step up to do those jobs with the same wages. I bet not many," said another.

"Right, like there's a backlog of millions of suburban folks just clamoring to pick tomatoes but they're just refused the opportunity," joked a third.

"Americans will be willing to do the job if owners of these companies will pay a livable wage...let's be honest...the reason why immigrants are hired is because they get paid close to nothing..." added a fourth.

According to the ADP National Employment Report, US private payrolls decreased in June as 33,000 jobs were lost. In May, the report revealed that 29,000 jobs had been lost, marking a steady decrease.
