
Spanish actress Verónica Echegui, known worldwide for her roles in Netflix, Prime Video and Apple TV+ productions, has died at the age of 48. Her family confirmed her passing, citing illness as the cause of death, which was later revealed to be cancer.
According to the newspaper El País, Echegui was one of Spain's most recognized actresses. Born in Madrid on June 16, 1983, as Verónica Fernández de Echegaray, she began her career with small roles in television and theater. Her breakthrough came in 2006 when acclaimed director Bigas Luna cast her as the lead in Yo Soy La Juani, alongside Dani Martín. The performance earned her a Goya Award nomination for Best New Actress, Spain's equivalent of the Oscars, marking the beginning of a celebrated career on screen.
A year later, he would begin his international career by starring in Tocar El Cielo , an Argentine-Spanish co-production directed by Marcos Carnevale.
Her best-known work in Latin America was Me Estás Matando Susana, with Gael García Bernal, while in Hollywood she shared credits with Sam Worthington in the production The Hunter.
Among his Netflix productions are the film Secret Origins and the series Intimacy.
On Prime Video, she can be seen in the series 3 Caminos and in the English film Book of Love with Sam Claffin, a romantic comedy. One of her most recent roles was in A muerte (Death) for Apple TV+, where she played a woman who had received a life-threatening diagnosis.

The Spanish-speaking audiovisual industry mourns her passing, but they are not alone. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez lamented the news and described her as "an actress of enormous talent and humility, who is leaving far too young."

His partner, Miguel Ángel Muñoz, admitted he was in shock. "I'm shocked today that you're gone. What a sad day today. My deepest condolences to all of the family and closest friends," he said.

Verónica Echegui's cause of death?
According to the Spanish press, the actress had been hospitalized in early July and never recovered. She had been diagnosed with cancer.
Hes remains are being held at the La Paz funeral home in Madrid.
