Set to kick off the seventh and final season, AMC’s ‘Mad Men’ hopes to end the program’s highly successful run with 14 episodes chock full of enticing story lines along with the introduction of new characters. The final episode of season 6 saw the character Don Draper (played by Jon Hamm) self-destruct, leaving many extremely intrigued as to how his life in the upcoming finale will rebound, or worse, continue to spiral downward. On the verge of losing all the important things in his life, Draper is in desperate need of a new direction, a direction Jon Hamm spoke about recently.
“When we last saw Don, he was not in great shape,” Hamm said of his character when asked by Rolling Stone about the figures current state of mind. “He was essentially unemployed, his marriage was not great, his relationship with his daughter in particular was fraught. He realized that it's time to take some serious stock in his life. That's a pretty good jumping-off point from where we start in Season Seven. He's gotta clean up a lot of mess, and take responsibility for it, but also try to do it with as little fallout as he possibly can. He's not a very skilled surgeon. He's sometimes a bit more of a bull in a china shop. So I think that might prove very tricky for Don."
As Don continues to deal with his being put on leave by Sterling Cooper & Partners after revealing that he grew up in a whorehouse-orphanage during a pitch meeting, the popular character will also be looking to repair his marriage. With his bride Megan now on the West Coast to boost her acting career, Don remained in New York, leaving followers of the show wondering if he’ll hop a plane out to the left coast in order to reconnect with his love. Due to the fact that the season 6 finale was so successful as far as ratings are concerned, the debut episode of season 7 should enjoy high levels of achievement as well.
In addition to Don’s struggles, season 7 will also introduce at least four new characters to the popular drama. Will Scully, Ferg Donnelly, Dennis Ford and Diana, a kind mother and housewife, are set to join the show in order to add a fresh level of intrigue.
