Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday, which falls on April 13, 2017, is the beginning of the three day celebration of Easter. This period is one big celebration remembering the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and death of Jesus, and the Resurrection to new life. The Holiday commemorates:

The Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles: On this day, Christians remember the day when Jesus took the bread and wine and shared them with his disciples. The Last Supper was a Passover meal, the meal which Jewish people share together to celebrate the time when God delivered Moses and the people from slavery in Egypt.

Jesus washes His Disciples Feet: Jesus gives us testimony on what it means to have a vocation to serve humanity and His Church by washing his disciples’ feet right before sharing their last meal together. Humbling himself is a powerful reminder of how we are supposed to live the Christian life.

Holy Thursday’s celebration, invites us to reflect on the Mystery of The Passion of Christ and everything that happened on the day Jesus decided to give us His all. It also marks the day of Jesus’ betrayal, orchestrated by Judas Iscariot and Jesus’ acceptance of His Father’s wishes at Gethsemane.
