Prince Harry and Meghan Markle allegedly have a rift with Prince William and Kate Middleton. While the Palace has yet to confirm this long-standing rumor, a royal expert recently claimed that the friendship of the “Fab Four” was always doomed to fail.

According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, it would be impractical for the Fab Four to continue their friendship after everything that has happened in recent months. “A series of rumors began last year that there had been disagreements between the Cambridges and the Sussexes and reports of incidents, the tiara, the way Meghan was supposed to treat the staff, etc.” he said.

“These are still disputed but their separation from Kensington Palace to go to Frogmore Cottage and the split in the Royal Foundation destroyed the myth of the Fab Four, which was probably always impractical. It was clear Meghan and Harry wanted to do things their way and draw the line between public and private in a new way as the future would be different and undoubtedly more independent,” he added.

Fitzwilliams went on to discuss how Meghan’s difference from Kate has affected the relationship of the Sussexes and the Cambridges. He explained that since Meghan was already a household name before she married into the royal family, she has a lot of opinions as to how she and Prince Harry should promote the Sussex brand. Kate, on the other hand, is less opinionated and is more inclined to follow royal traditions and protocols.

According to Fitzwilliams, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to split from Prince William and Kate because they felt rather restricted by conventional royal life. Given Prince William’s position as the second in line to the throne, he and his wife are more bound by royal traditions, which Prince Harry and Meghan obviously seek to veer away from.

He added that the Sussexes’ and the Cambridges’ differences as individuals also explain why the friendship of the two pairs would never work. Unlike Prince Harry and Meghan, who have a unique global reach and contact with top celebrities, Prince William and Kate do not.

Explaining how Meghan handles the Sussex brand, he said that Meghan is not the type to sit back and take Prince Harry’s lead on everything. “She had a million followers on Instagram before she even met Harry,” he said. “Kate didn’t. So there’s going to be a difference,” he added.
