Princess Diana used to give Prince William and Prince Harry cute nicknames. But after their trip to Scotland, the Princess of Wales came up with a heartbreaking moniker for her sons.

While speaking with Daily Mail (via Express), royal expert Ingrid Seward said that there came a point in her life when Princess Diana was no longer interested in participating in the royal family’s annual Boxing Day shoot. However, the late royal was not really anti-shooting.

“She said the boys loved Scotland but she didn’t like them being photographed with a gun in their hands,” Seward said. “She said, ‘Remember, there’s always someone in a high-rise flat who doesn’t want to see you shoot a Bambi,’” the royal expert added.

And since Prince William and Prince Harry had a blast at the annual Boxing Day shoot, Princess Diana came up with the nickname “Killer Wales” for her boys. When Prince William was much younger, Princess Diana used to call him “Wombat.”

During his interview with NBC, the now dad of three revealed that his late mom started calling him Wombat when he was 2 years old. “But when we went to Australia with our parents, and the wombat, you know, that’s the local animal,” Prince William said. “So, I just basically got called that. Not because I look like a wombat, or maybe I do,” he added.

On the other hand, Princess Diana called Prince Harry “my little Spencer” when he was young. The mom of two came up with the adorable nickname when she realized how the Duke of Sussex resembled his Spencer side of the family.

Meanwhile, Princess Diana’s nickname for her sons after participating in the shooting event years ago was not the only reason why the event made headlines this week. It has also been revealed that Camilla Parker Bowles used the yearly event to get closer to Prince Charles.

Camilla once asked Princess Diana if she would be attending the Boxing Day shoot, and she said no. Camilla saw this as an opportunity to bond with Prince Charles even more. “Diana later realized that Camilla saw Charles’ love of hunting as a conduit to maintaining her relationship with him,” royal biographer Andrew Morton said.
