For fans of “The Voice,” coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton’s friendly competition has been one of the show’s attractions since the first season. Sadly, fans will no longer be able to see the two butt heads again since the Maroon 5 frontman won’t be back for the seventeenth season.

But for fans, the important question to ask is whether or not Shelton and Levine’s relationship will change due to the latter leaving “The Voice.” Here are a few clues on just how deep the friendship between the two really is.

Fans have been used to Shelton and Levine’s feud in the show that it can be considered one of its highlights. In fact, there are fans who are wondering if the two really hated each other off camera as well.

However, Shelton explained the dynamics of his rather friendship with Levine. “We are constantly at each other’s throats, and sometimes we really do get mad at each other,” Shelton told The Tennesseean. “We’re those two guys you knew in high school where we have this bond that is unexplainable. It brings out the best and worst in both of us.”

However, few fans of both musicians might rightly worry that Levine’s departure from the show might strain his friendship with Shelton. Things might even be awkward since it’s Shelton’s girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, who will be replacing Levine in “The Voice” Season 17.

However, those worries are totally unnecessary as there is no bad blood between Levine and Shelton at all. In fact, Levine is actually delighted that it’s Stefani who will be taking over his post. “It’s bittersweet for everyone, but Levine is so excited that Gwen is going to take his chair,” an insider revealed.

Levine also posted a message saying his goodbye to the show’s cast and crew. He even specifically mentioned Shelton, which shows he really sees him as a friend.

“And, BLAKE FUCKIN’ SHELTON. I couldn’t hide my love for you if I tried,” Levine wrote on Instagram. “Seriously. I tried. Can’t do it. Our friendship is and always will be one for the books.”

Shelton is even saddened by his friend’s departure. “Having a hard time wrapping my head around @adamlevine not being at @NBCTheVoice anymore,” Shelton wrote on Twitter. “After 16 seasons that changed both of ours lives. I only found out about this yesterday and it hasn’t set in on me yet. Gonna miss working with that idiot.”

Shelton and Levine were members of the four original judges, together with Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, when “The Voice” started. But what started as being merely co-workers slowly turned into friendship, one that has survived the test of time. At this point, it’s probably safe to say that they’ll continue to remain as friends even outside of the show.
