Cops are searching for a Soweto woman who refused to appear in court to testify against a man who murdered her mother in 2019.
Mbali Ntuli, a South African, identified her ex-boyfriend to the police after he reportedly shot her and her mother during a fight. Her mother died on the spot while she recovered after paramedics rushed her to the hospital.
The lady from Soweto's Mzimhlophe Hostel aided cops in their search for the suspect. The following year, authorities arrested the perpetrator with the help of Mbali.
According to an online tabloid, she claimed at the time that what she wanted was to put her ex-boyfriend behind bars for the assault.
As a witness to the murder, she was legally bound to testify against him in the South Gauteng High Court. However, she declined to testify later on.
Even when cops told Mbali that not testifying after witnessing a crime was against the law, she still refused to cooperate with them. She reportedly disappeared, and police are now on the lookout for her.
A surprised family member disclosed in a report that Mbali had a change of heart after she began talking to her boyfriend while in detention.
The court has since released an arrest warrant for Mbali, according to Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo. According to information received, she lives at the suspect's home in Kranskop, KZN.
Mbali's change of heart astounded her kin. A family member was in disbelief that the daughter opted to love her mother's killer.
“It’s not the right thing to do. I don’t know what’s got into her. She decided to love the man who took her mum away. It’s shocking,” said her relative.
