Suicide is one of the leading reasons for death worldwide. A study by the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that more than 700,000 people die by suicide every year.
It stands in the fourth position on the list of the leading causes of death among 15-19-year-olds.

With the idea of raising awareness, World Suicide Prevention Day is observed annually on Sept. 10. The theme this year is "Creating hope through action", according to Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), to stress the importance of collective action to address this issue.
