A serious UK pile-up involving over one hundred cars occurred on the New Kingsferry bridge just southeast of London on Thursday Morning. According to BBC News, hundreds received bumps and scraps in the shocking incident. Eight are seriously injured.

Traffic on a multi-lane bridge connecting the Isle of Sheppey with Kent remains closed today as responders continue to work on clearing debris from the road. Aerial footage of the UK pile-up captured by helicopters show what looks like an endless train of cars that have collided into one another. Many drivers emerged from their vehicles and stood by their car as they waited for assistance.

According to officials, more than 200 commuters involved in the crash received medical care at the scene. Area hospitals admitted 30 commuters that required more medical attention. Among the 30, eight suffer serious injuries.

Witnesses at the scene blamed morning fog as the cause of the UK pile-up. The New Kingsferry bridge was completely shrouded in fog, which severely compromised visibility. Despite the violent chain-reaction crash, no fatalities have been reported. Witnesses stated that the UK pile-up went on for about 10 minutes.

“It's horrific. I've never seen anything like it in my life,” said 45-year-old Martin Stammers, who was involved in the crash.

“All you could hear was cars crashing. We got out of our car and it was eerily quiet with visibility down to just 20 yards. Then you would hear the screeching of brakes and then a thud. It was all you could hear for about 10 minutes – crash after crash after crash,” Stammers said.
