A mother is furious at a female basketball player who gave her 15-year-old daughter a “sucker punch” during a basketball game in California.

The victim was identified as Lauryn Ham who ended up getting sucker-punched by an opposing female player following a play.

At that time, the stocky player shot a three-pointer but landed awkwardly into Ham. When they both got up, the same opposing player, for some reason, ended up retaliating on Lauryn who was a whole lot smaller than her.

The incident happened in front of Lauryn’s mother, Alice Ham who was left in shock by the whole incident, ABC7 reported.

“The person in question went down the court and shot a 3-pointer, landed, fell backwards into my daughter,” Ham said. “As they got up and turned and were walking back down to the other side of the court, her mom says to her, ‘You need to hit her for that.’ And the child in question sucker-punched my daughter,” Alice Ham stated.

The mother reveals that Lauryn continues to feel the effects of that incident and is unable to go to school and maintain focus. She has also filed a police report on the incident and feels that it rises to the level of assault, the way that she does it with such intent and brutal force.

“You always see things on video and you never think it could happen to you,” Ham said. “To actually see it and know that was my kid just hurt me so bad,” Ham said.

It appears the family of the girl who threw the punch is aware of the charges and has already hired an attorney.

Gary Thomas, CEO of Avac United, the group that hosted the event was also apologetic on the matter, stressing that they wanted to have an environment where kids should have fun, enjoy and be safe, KTLA reported.
