A young teenage boy from Queens, New York found himself accidentally severing his arm on Monday after attempting to “subway surf” and finding himself falling off the train car instead.

Hamza Mohamed, the 15-year-old boy from Queens, was reportedly with a group of friends at the Jackson Heights’ Northbound R train at the 74th Street-Roosevelt Avenue station when the incident occurred, according to the New York Daily News.

Mohamed reportedly climbed to the top of the train that he wanted to ride in an attempt to “subway surf,” but he somehow lost his balance and found himself falling down to the train tracks below. When the train began to leave the station, it severed the boy's arm as the carriages left, the New York Post reported.

As one person reportedly screamed “His arm is off!” in shock, a straphanger pressed the emergency stop button and informed the conductor of the child in the tracks who cut his arm. Numerous 911 calls were made during this time from shocked onlookers.

“We know he was subway surfing on the outside of the car,” a transit worker said. “Usually when you’re subway surfing, you have to get off the train before the tunnel. He must’ve [missed] that point.”

Medics who came to the scene took Mohamed to the Bellevue Hospital, while his arm was found underneath the train after he had left. His left arm was reportedly cut from the “elbow below,” and the worker noted that Mohamed did not have a strong reaction to his arm being cut off after he was wheeled off by the medics.

“He was just looking around like nothing happened. He didn’t cry or nothing,” the worker said.

His family has been distraught over the incident, with his father asking for prayers to help his son out.

“We’re terribly sad over what happened,” father Yousif Mohamed said. “I don’t know the kids he was with. We really don’t know how this could have happened. We’ve never had any problems with him. He’s a good boy.”
