Volvo has revealed its latest V40 crossover ahead of its official public debut come later this month at the Paris Auto Show.

The V40 Cross Country will target chic, young urbanites that appreciate the occasional outdoor excursion. Based on the solid V40 platform, the V40 Cross Country features higher ground clearance and additional body cladding to protect itself when put up with the road less travelled.

Unlike the utilitarian XC40, XC60 and XC90 models, the V40 Cross Country will be closer in appearance to its standard V40 model as opposed to the more distinctly rugged XC range. That said, the V40 Cross Country will offer all-wheel-drive.

Like the standard V40, the V40 Cross Country offers a whole range of engines from compact diesels to the range-topping 254-hp T5 five-cylinder engine mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox. 0-to-60 mph is achieved in 6.1 seconds.

Unique exterior treatments on the V40 Cross Country include a charcoal treatment front and rear bumper with an integrated rear skid plate, a honeycomb mesh grille, and daytime running lights.

Inside, the V40 Cross Country offers premium touches including Volvo's signature floating waterfall center console, contrast stitching on the leather seats, as well as conveniences like 40/60 split-folding rear seats, new storage cubby holes in the floor, armrest storage compartment for CDs, and even a USB/iPod or Aux dock for the audio system.

Unfortunately, Volvo will not be offering the V40 Cross Country in the U.S. market and will be catering to the Chinese and European market instead. While Volvo's marketing execs believe it's smart to take the V40 Cross Country out of the U.S. lineup, the crossover segment is arguably the fastest growing segment in the United States.
