A 31-year-old man is wanted for allegedly running over a police officer as he tried to escape capture for disqualified driving in Colne, Lancs.

The suspect was identified as Mark Smithies. He reportedly tried to run over a female police officer at a McDonald’s drive-thru trying to evade arrest.

The police officer ended up injured after she was caught in between a police car and the suspect’s vehicle at the restaurant on North Valley Road in Colne, Lancs last Thursday, Sept. 22.

According to reports, Smithies tried to escape after he mounted the curb and went to a grass verge. This move ended up trapping the female police constable between his blue Mitsubishi Lancer with plate number SV11 RWZ and the police car.

“Officers have tried to stop Smithies who was wanted for disqualified driving,” a Lancashire police spokesperson said. “In an attempt to escape the driver mounted the kerb and onto a grass verge trapping a female PC between his car, a blue Mitsubishi Lancer, registration SV11 RWZ, and a police car.”

The unnamed female officer suffered a leg injury as a result of the incident. Authorities have yet to capture the 31-year-old suspect and are now seeking the help of the public to find Smithies.

"Officers have tried to stop Smithies who was wanted for disqualified driving,” the police spokesperson said. "We have been looking for him since the incident, which happened at the McDonald's restaurant on North Valley Road in Colne, but we are now asking for your help.”

Police added that Smithies last known address was at Dickson Street in Burnley. For those who may have leads to his whereabouts, authorities are requesting anyone to call them on 101 quoting log 0473 of September 22.

For those who may have immediate sightings of the 31-year-old man, the public is urged to immediately call 999.
