A 38-year-old man was reportedly found dead on Thursday, Nov. 24, after police discovered his body at Kilburn Drive in Shevington, Wigan, Greater Manchester at around 7:00 p.m.

The male victim was identified as Liam Smith, allegedly a victim of an acid attack and a gunshot wound.

Greater Manchester Police found the body of Smith covered with a substance according to the latest finding of authorities from a Home Office post-mortem, the Manchester Evening News reported.

It was added that the mysterious substance is now contained and is not a source of any further harm.

The Greater Manchester Police has launched a murder investigation in connection with the murder of Liam Smith. They are seeking the public’s help, especially the ones who came into contact with the victim’s body.

Police are also urging witnesses to come forward to help in the investigation. Those with leads can reach out to the Greater Manchester Police between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, on Kilburn Drive.

“This is a shocking murder of a much-loved family man,” Detective Chief Inspector Gina Brennand stated.

“I have a team of detectives working around the clock and I urge anyone who has seen anything unusual or out of the ordinary near to the victim’s home during the day and early evening of Thursday, November 24, to contact the Major Incident Room,” she added.

Brennand also added that the fatal shooting is the first one in the Manchester area in over two years. Locals were also advised not to panic if they see people wearing special protective clothing. She explained that this was because police were taking extra precautions.

"Liam was kind hearted, funny, the life and soul of the party. He was the most devoted dad, much loved son, brother, grandson and uncle,” an official statement from the family of Smith read. "He will sorely be missed by all who knew and loved him."
