Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls Lindsey Graham 'A Psychotic Neocon' After Iwo Jima Comparison on Iran

Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene sharply criticized Sen. Lindsey Graham over his support for potential U.S. military action against Iran, calling him a "psychotic neocon" and accusing him of being "willing to send US Marines in to be slaughtered."

In a post on X, Greene also urged South Carolina voters to "vote him out," linking her criticism to broader concerns about government funding, including for Homeland Security agencies.

In an interview on Fox News on Sunday, Graham urged the president to consider seizing Kharg Island, Iran's main oil export hub, as a way to pressure the country's leadership. "Keep it up for a few more weeks, take Kharg Island ... control that island, let this regime die on a vine," he said.

He emphasized his confidence in the military, stating: "I trust the Marines... We did Iwo Jima, we can do this. The Marines, my money's always on the Marines." The comparison to one of the bloodiest battles of World War II — where nearly 7,000 U.S. troops were killed — became a focal point of the backlash.

Graham's comments drew immediate backlash from several Republican lawmakers. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, an Air Force veteran, said she was "deeply upset at the lack of respect for life" in Graham's remarks, adding that he was acting "as if they are expendable cattle."

Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina, who represents Graham's home state, also criticized the senator, writing that he "needs to be removed from the Situation Room." In a separate post, Mace said Graham's approach to foreign policy amounted to "send someone else's kids to war," citing past conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Other Republicans echoed similar concerns. Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee pointed to the human cost of Iwo Jima, noting that thousands of Marines were killed or wounded while Paul Dans, a Republican challenger to Graham, described the senator as "drunk on war and power."

The dispute comes as the administration considers options to increase pressure on Iran, including potential operations targeting strategic infrastructure. Analysts have warned that such actions could risk drawing U.S. forces into a prolonged conflict.
