If you have been an avid viewer of “Game Of Thrones,” you probably know how wild, violent, scandalous or heartbreaking some of its scenes can get. If the show affects you that much, imagine how much harder it must be for the actors to put themselves in the shoes of the characters they portray and be part of those scenes. Here are five “Game Of Thrones” scenes that the show’s actors had a hard time filming.

1. The Death Of Meryn Trant

Meryn Trant had to start shooting early in the morning for this scene. In one of her interviews, he recalled getting prosthetics in his eyes early that day and having to leave them in for 12 hours. He felt like a blind man that day, remembering nothing from that shooting day except total darkness.

2. The Execution Of Ned Stark

Watching Ned Stark being beheaded in a viciously brutal scene was too painful for “Game Of Thrones” viewers, but being in Ned Stark’s shoes was even harder for actor Sean Bean. It was a physical and emotional torture of sorts to die so early on in the show’s run and in such a brutal way.

3. The Drowning Of Euron Greyjoy

Of all the scenes he had filmed for the series, Euron Greyjoy portrayer Asbaek was most intimidated by his character’s drowning ceremony. The actor admitted that it was quite a struggle for him to act while freezing during the drowning scene. “When you’re underwater, and there’s a guy pushing you down, and it’s very, very cold, it’s one of those challenges that you have to accept as an actor,” he said.

4. The Torture Of Theon Greyjoy

Theon Greyjoy’s torture scenes are among the most gruesome in the series. In fact, Theon portrayer Alfie Allen always needed to focus on his most painful memories to be able to convey the emotions required of him. In one of his interviews, he said he needed to experience pain himself to make the torture scenes realistic in the eyes of the audience.

5. The Horse Heart Scene Of Daenerys

Actress Emilia Clarke once recalled being grossed out by the taste of the solidified jam she had to eat for that scene, describing the artificial horse heart’s taste as a disgusting combination of raw pasta and bleach. Unfortunately, she could not perfect the scene so she had to eat 28 of those fake hearts for several days.
