Before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan Markle always relied on her own voice to stand up for herself. Now that she’s already a duchess, however, she can no longer do the same. Since it is completely against protocol for royals to speak out on social media, all Meghan can do is just watch print and online publications drag her name through the mud.

But as luck would have it, the former “Suits” star has her loyal friends to defend her when she cannot defend herself. Here are some of the instances when Meghan’s closest celebrity friends defended her against media attacks.

1. George Clooney

Clooney and Meghan became close after Prince Harry introduced her to him in 2015. While promoting his new show a couple of months ago, Clooney took the opportunity to clap back at media outlets, taking advantage of Meghan’s family drama for engagement. “She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and it’s history repeating itself,” he said.

2. Jessica Mulroney

The Canadian stylist and one of Meghan’s besties posted a cryptic message on Instagram to call out critics of the duchess’s lavish baby shower in New York. “It’s exhausting being strong, let no one tell you otherwise, there are a million ways to heal, every single one will wear you down. Keep your capacity for joy, guard it for the rest of your life,” the quote read. The inspirational quote seemed to try to show her support for her close friend in light of the criticisms against her.

3. Abigail Spencer

Spencer and Meghan met 10 years ago when they auditioned for a role in “Suits.” When news about Meghan’s budding relationship with Prince Harry surfaced, Spencer said in an interview that Prince Harry was very lucky to be marrying her friend, even describing her as “one of the most glorious people” she had ever met. When Meghan’s estranged sister, Samantha, told the press that Meghan’s charity work was “all for the show,” Spencer stepped up and said in an interview that the world is lucky to experience Meghan’s loveliness. “She’s going to have a great moment to change the world,” she said.

4. Serena Williams

The tennis superstar once revealed that Meghan is the kind of friend “who helps you out without even trying.” In an interview, Williams recalled one conversation she had with Meghan amid the onslaught of negative press about her. She said she asked Meghan how she was, but Meghan returned the question to her and asked, “No, how are you?” “I’m like, Meghan, stop being so nice. You’re the pregnant one, aren’t you supposed to have hormones, why are you so sweet?’ But that’s always been her,” she said in the interview.

5. Priyanka Chopra

The international Indian actress met Meghan at a party years ago, and they just clicked. When Meghan released her first royal cookbook last year, Chopra posted on social media to commend her friend. “This is everything you always stood for. Women supporting women, supporting communities,” she wrote.
