Researchers from Florida State University revealed in a new study that women are more likely to pay attention to average and plus-size models compared to thin models.

Russell Clayton, assistant professor in the FSU School of Communication, said the study examines how women respond to models of different sizes. "By measuring psychophysiological responses during image exposure, we were able to gain insights into the real-time cognitive and emotional responses that unfold when women are exposed to different-size media fashion models," Clayton said.

Researchers recruited 49 college-age women, and showed them images of diverse women with different physical characteristics. After viewing each image, participants answered questions about their body satisfaction and how much they had compared themselves to the models.

The results revealed the women paid more attention to the plus-size models and reported feeling better about their own bodies, whereas when they saw images of thin women, research participants made comparisons, paid less attention, remembered less about the models, and they had less body satisfaction.

  • Christina Mendez: She is a Dominican plus size model and Autism Activist.

  • Nadia Aboulhosn: She is a Lebanese-American fashion blogger, model, and designer from Orlando, Florida.

  • Alessandra Garcia: She is a L.A. native, and Cuban descendent. She is the daughter of actor Andy Garcia.
