A 7-year-old schoolgirl has been reported dead after a portion of her school's washroom wall collapsed on her in Bilaspur City, Chhattisgarh, India on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

The 7-year-old victim, a student of class 2 studying at a private school in the Gitanjali City Phase-2 area in Chattisgarh, reportedly went to use the school washroom alone at around noon on Tuesday, Jan. 4. However, when she entered the room, a portion of the partition wall collapsed on her, crushed her to death, and killed her, NDTV reported.

The victim reportedly suffered severe head injuries in the accident, with the school's teachers immediately rushing her to the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) Hospital for treatment. However, the victim was declared dead upon arrival at the facility.

The school director has reportedly been taken into custody by the police for negligence. A preliminary investigation conducted by the authorities suggested that the bathroom of the school was without a roof and in a dilapidated condition.

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh's Public Works Department (PWD) department is also assessing whether the school's bathroom wall was built according to the set standards, the Tribune reported.
