The suspect behind the Monterey Park shooting that claimed the lives of ten individuals has reportedly been found.

He was identified as Huu Can Tran, who was later found dead in a white van according to authorities. Police added that the 72-year-old died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was declared dead at the scene, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna stated in a report by BBC.

People gathered at the park to celebrate the Lunar New Year, a place known for its large Asian population. The motive behind the shooting incident remains unknown as of this writing.

Aside from the ten individuals who were killed in the unfortunate incident, there were reportedly seven others still in critical condition and in the hospital according to the sheriff in a news conference that was held Sunday, Jan. 22.

The dead include a woman in her 50s, four women in their 60s and a woman in her 70s, as well as two men in their 60s and three men in their 70s, according to Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County medical examiner in a report by USA Today.

Among those already identified include My Nhan, 65, Valentino Alvero, 68, Lilan Li, 63, and Xiujuan Yu, 57, according to Ardalani.

The shooting incident is one of the deadliest in the history of California. It happened around 22:22 local time on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park.

It was added by Police Chief Scott Wiese, the first responders were mostly the youngest on his squad, having finished their training only months ago.

"They came across a scene none of them have prepared for," he said. "There were injured people inside and dead people inside. My young officers did their job."

It was added that about 30 minutes later, the gunman was found arriving at another dance studio at Alhambra. However, two people managed to wrestle the weapon from him before the 72-year-old escaped.

It was added that a coder and operator of the studio, Brandon Tsay, allegedly disarmed the man. He said that Tran was looking at him and looking around, not hiding and believed the 72-year-old trying to harm him.
