“Alita: Battle Angel 2” might have garnered a lot of curiosity, but the movie didn’t really see much success at the box office. While several speculated that a sequel may not really be on the cards, fans can now heave a sigh of relief as a sequel is indeed warranted.

The profits from “Alita: Battle Angel 2” largely came from the international audience, as opposed to the domestic U.S market. While Fix wasn’t willing to take a chance, the Disney buyout happened in due course of time—giving real reasons as to why the film should probably get a follow-up.

To begin with, the studio witnesses jaw-dropping billion-dollar grosses from movies like "Captain Marvel," "Aladdin," "Avengers: Endgame" and "The Lion King," and the like. Not to forget, there's still the "Frozen" sequel and "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" in the pipeline.

Disney's brand value is at a whole new level and has seen unprecedented growth in the recent past. In all honesty, a sequel backed by Disney can never go wrong. “Alita: Battle Angel 2” required the momentum which wasn’t possible with Fox. Moreover, one must also keep in mind that Disney hardly ever gets it wrong in terms of creative teams, cast and marketing personnel—thus pushing Alita's storyline to amass a larger audience.

What needs to be factored in that making a sequel at present would prove to be beneficial monetarily for the production team. This would also offset risk as opposed to how the filmmaking technology scene will pan out in the coming years.

Since it’s better late than sorry, a successful sequel should be more character-driven, focussing more on the character Alita. It is about time that the movie’s makers focus on what matters the most—the protagonist than the background. Last but not least, a sci0-fi movie at this juncture would help diversify Disney's crop of films. At present, Disney is desperately in the need for a refreshing change from the usual kids' films and superhero movies, thus keeping the studio fresh and versatile in terms of content being put out. So, yes, the verdict is that "Alita: Battle Angel 2" should happen. But, conditions would apply!
