Last night was Miguel 'El Piojo' Herrera's last match as manager of América. His team played Cruz Azul and managed scored first thanks to Luis Gabriel Rey's brilliant header in the 45th minute. Yet Luis Perea tied the match for La Máquina after 70 minutes of play. After a 45 minute rain delay, which left the grounds in less than optimal conditions, América and Cruz Azul played an uninspiring match with little emotion and not very interesting football. Whether this will be an omen for the Tri's performance under Herrera's direction remains to be seen.

Las Águilas, began the game with good ball control, but their passing was weak at best. Meanwhile Cruz Azul faced similar troubles, but at least had the first clear play of the game with a shot by Torrado that was thrown wide. Raúl Jiménez had the first shot from the America side, but it was also unsuccessful thanks to Jesús Corona. Just when it seemed that the first half of the match would finish without the merest flourish of exciting football, Miguel Layun made a pass towards the center where Luis Gabriel Rey was waiting to smash the first goal of the match.

The second half continued much the same as the first, with La Máquina having greater possession of the ball but Las Aguilas having more opportunities for scoring. Memo Vázquez replaced Formica and Alejandro Castro for Nápoles and Amione, while "Piojo" replaced Jiménez and Osvaldo for Mendoza and Molina. The teams were just adapting to these changes, when Cruz Azul tied the game when Luis Perea scored with a solid header following a brilliant corner kick in the 70th minute.

With the match tied up, both teams fought hard to break the stalemate, but unfortunately neither team was able to triumph. Despite some close calls, the match finished a tie, leaving América on top of the table on 32 points. The next match will be next Saturday against Puebla. Meanhwile Cruz Azul is fourth with 24 points. They will play Pachuca next Saturday.
