On “American Idol” last night the Top 8 performed. The theme of the night was “Back to the Start” meaning that contestants would sing the song they sang at the very beginning, at their audition where America and the judges first met them. We could see how they have evolved and gotten better throughout the season. Each of them have listened to the judges’ criticism and done whatever it has taken to still be competing to be the next American Idol.

Jessica Meuse started off the night. She sang an original song called “The Blue Eyed Liar.” She received great comments from the judges. Then CJ Harris, who we first saw in Salt Lake City, sang “Soul Shine.” Then Sam Woolf sang “Lego House.” Malaya Watson sang “Ain’t no way.” Then Dexter came out and sang “One Mississippi.” Jena Irene sang “Rolling in the deep.” Rocker Caleb Johnson sang Chain of Fools” and last but not least Alex Preston sang an original song “Fairytales.”

If we judge on last night’s performances, it is hard to say who could be in the bottom three because no one received negative feedback. It is all going to come down who was America’s favorite. When it comes to who will be the next American Idol, Caleb Johnson is the favorite but Jena Irene is knocking on the door, behind but by just a little bit. She could take the whole competition if she keeps wowing us like she did last night with her rendition of “Rolling in the Deep.” Alex Preston will also be in the fight, he has been on the top and judges always give him positive feedback. Caleb, Alex and Jena seem to be the fan favorites.

Tune in to Fox tonight to watch the eliminations. Who do you think will be in the bottom three and eventually get eliminated?
