Angelina Jolie had always felt something was wrong with her marriage to Brad Pitt. In one interview, the “Maleficent” star revealed that there had always been some “heaviness” in their relationship, which they tried to work out by working on a project together. Unfortunately, they still didn’t make it.

Pitt and Jolie had been together for more than a decade before they called it quits in 2016. Although Jolie never hoped that they would ever get to that point, she admitted in an interview after the announcement of their split that she had always felt that they would eventually get there.

It’s no secret that Pitt and Jolie developed romantic feelings for each other after working together on “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” At that time, both Pitt and Jolie felt that their chemistry was so strong and that they were quite a match. That’s why when their marital problems started to ensue years later, Jolie thought that working on a project together might be the solution for what they were going through.

In an interview, Jolie revealed that working together on “By The Sea” was a failed attempt at fixing their marriage. The actress said that the problems in their relationship were deeply apparent while making the film, and their chemistry was so different from when they were making “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

“We had met working together and we worked together well,” said Jolie. “I wanted us to do some serious work together. I thought it would be a good way for us to communicate. In some ways it was, and in some ways, we learned some things,” she added.

Jolie admitted that while their second project together helped them realize many things about their marriage, there was still some heaviness that’s weighing them down. “But there was a heaviness probably during that situation that carried on and it wasn’t because of the film,” said Jolie.

She also said that while the film helped them communicate the things they needed to communicate with each other, it didn’t solve certain things. Consequently, Pitt and Jolie announced their split in 2016. Jolie filed for divorce in September last year, and negotiations are yet to be finalized.
