After last week's kiss between Mary and Bash, tensions are at an all-time high at French court. Francis watched the secret kiss between a drunk Mary and a rather bashful Bash, all the while Mary is not pleased with Olivia's prolonged stay at the castle. However, in episode 6 their lover's quarrel will have to be put to the side because Mary has been "Chosen" and not by Francis. The young Queen of Scotland is marked by the Heretics, with a small burn of antlers, and a huge severed, bleeding deer head hanging on her canopy. Not the way a Queen should wake up, Mary opens her eyes are screams bloody murder. Bash and Francis immediately come to her aide, only to reveal that she has in fact been marked for sacrifice by the Heretics who live in the dark forest.
Remember when gallant young Bash interrupted the Heretics blood sacrifice? Well, they are still upset, and apparently that warning was serious, in an attempt to terrify Bash they have targeted his unrequited love. But will it work? Most likely, Mary will not loss her life, but prepare for serious drama. Shockingly, Queen Catherine "takes drastic measures to make sure the guilty party is caught." And she is not the only member of the royal family looking out for Mary, Bash takes the Heretics by the antlers, and decides to venture into the woods to pay his debt. In order to save Mary's life, Bash will have to perform "the human sacrifice the pagans demand." And while the promo video for episode 6 doesn't give us any indication of who the unlikely sacrifice is, the synopsis confirms that Bash returns to the castle "with blood on his hands."
So while Bash is out risking his life, what exactly is Mary's dear fiancé Francis doing? Well aside from brooding over Mary and Bash's passionate kiss, he is spending time with Olivia. According to the episode 6 synopsis, Francis becomes aware of Mary and Bash's growing attraction, which only pushes him closer to Olivia.
