Brazil overtook Italy on Thursday as the third country with the most deaths from coronavirus. As of this writing, with a total of 34,021 deaths and 1,473 deaths daily, according to Infobae, the Latin American country records a new record.

The country is also the second in the world with the highest number of infections after the United States. Among the states with the most deaths in Sao Paulo with a total of 8,276, followed by Rio de Janeiro with 6,010.

However, the impoverished areas of the north and northeast have higher death rates. Among them are the Amazon and Ceará, whose health systems are on the verge of collapse, as reported by Infobae. Due to the paucity of evidence, these figures could be astronomical, and experts suspect that the actual numbers are likely much higher.

According to the digital media, Brazil has not yet reached the peak of the pandemic, a situation that has different sectors of the country concerned.

The president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Francesco Roca, said that "many people die and nothing indicates that the curve will decrease."

Joao Gabbardo, former executive secretary of the Ministry of Health, said that in Brazil "there is no single COVID-19 curve", according to AFP and that this is due to the diversity and large size of the nation.

Epidemiologists and the World Health Organization (WHO) are alert and upset because several states and municipalities in Brazil have already begun to relax quarantine measures.
