
In the early stages of the contest Spain did not seem daunted by the Brazilians and their vast experience on the global stage. Andressa Alves in the 44th minute as Brazil earned a sport in the knockout stage with a 1-0 win over Spain at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 in Montreal, Canada on Saturday.
The win is the eighth straight in group stage play for Brazil, which is unbeaten in 14 group matches since loss to Germany in 1995.
Spain controlled the game for much of the first half, but Brazil closed the half with a flurry. The constant presence in the midfield stifled much of the Brazilian’s creativity and the South Americans were limited to an only handful of chances in the first 45 minutes.
Spain were unlucky in the 13th minute when Marta Correderas cross deflected off Brazil defender Rafaella and looked to have caught goalkeeper Luaciana wrong-footed, but the ball bounced just beyond the post.
With 15 minutes remaining, Marta set Forminga up with a gilt-edged chande from a few yards only to put her shot wide. Spain captain Veronica Boquete and team-mate Irene Paredes both hand a chance to equalize in the final minutes but Boquette’s final touch let her down and Parades struck the post.
Brazil finishes group stage play against Costa Rica on Wednesday, while Spain faces South Korea. Brazil lead the grop with 6 poits in case the South Americans win the next game will add 3 more point with a total of 9.
