'Cantinflas' Selected To Represent México At The Oscars!
México has selected 'Cantinflas' as the official entry for the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars. IMCINE

"Cantinflas" has been the work selected to represent México and compete for a nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 2015 Oscars! The film directed by Sebastián Del Amo is aptly titled "Cantinflas" and features a star-studded cast. Óscar Jaenada portrays de titular character and is supported by great talent that includes Bárbara Mori, Ilse Salas,Ana Layevska, Adal Ramones, Gabriela de la Garza, Ximena Gónzalez-Rubio, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Joaquín Cosio and many more. This is the untold story of Mexico's greatest and most beloved comedy film star of all time, from his humble origins on the small stage to the bright lights of Hollywood.

"We made this movie with our hearts, it is very satisfying that it was selected to represent México at the Oscars," producer of the film Vidal Cantú said in a statement. "I feel very satisfied of the everyone's work and every single actor as well as the whole team." Adolfo Franco, producer of "Cantinflas" also weighed in and said, "The selection of our film motivates us to continue producing inspirational stories with the highest quality standards to have more people go watch them at the theatres." The movie opened on Labor Day weekend stateside with impressive numbers, grossing $2,660,000 playing in 382 theatres with an average of $6.963 per theater. "Cantinflas" will bow out in México on September 16 with expansion to Central and South America rolling out through October.

Óscar Jaenada said in an interview that he felt "very luck" to have been the chosen one to play the Mexican icon. "Not for being from Spain (especially not in these tough times) but for having been picked to play an international icon like Cantinflas. Like the rest of the world, I grew up watching his films, so I feel honored, being that there are so many capable actors out there. Far from being scared about having a different nationality, I am an actor. I am used to doing things like this."
