Mexican artist Carin León canceled his performances in Mexico this week after announcing he had contracted a serious illness. Explaining that "health must always be prioritized," the singer-songwriter and his team detailed the situation.
"Unfortunately, due to health reasons, Carín León's performances scheduled at the Palenque of the León Fair for January 22nd and 23rd will be postponed. The artist was diagnosed with dengue fever and is following medical instructions for his speedy recovery," reads an official statement.
- The concert on January 22nd has been moved to Thursday , February 5th.
- The presentation scheduled for January 23rd has been moved to Friday , February 6th.
Is dengue dangerous?
Although dengue has become a prevalent viral disease in some Latin American countries, it is imperative to rest if infected, as it can have dangerous complications.
According to the Pan American Health Organization, dengue fever is primarily transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito , which is common in tropical and subtropical regions. The infection can cause high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea, and skin rashes , and usually lasts from 2 to 7 days . However, in some cases, it can progress to a more severe form with a risk of shock, internal bleeding, and serious complications, especially if medical attention is not received promptly. Prevention relies on avoiding mosquito bites and reducing mosquito populations , as there is no specific antiviral treatment for this disease.
Carin León's tour
The artist is expected to resume his tour of Mexico titled "Carín León, from Sonora to the world" , which includes performances in cities such as Hermosillo, Mérida, Cancún and Acapulco between March and August 2026, offering his fans a series of concerts after his recovery.
A dengue diagnosis casts doubt on whether the Mexican artist will be able to attend the Grammy Awards ceremony, where he is nominated for Best Mexican Music Album. The music industry's top awards ceremony takes place in Los Angeles on February 1st.
