The first details of Charlie Kirk's funeral are starting to emerge, while the conservative activist is being mourned around the U.S., from the White House and other government buildings to college campuses.

Kirk was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University, at around noon local time. He was holding a Turning Point USA, the powerhouse of conservative youth politics at Utah Valley University. While his family has not yet released a formal funeral schedule, the outlines of his final journey are beginning to take shape.

President Donald Trump revealed he is attending the funeral and gave an indication of the date. "I believe it's in Arizona, and they've asked me to go and I think I have an obligation to do that," he said. "I hear next weekend. Whenever it is, I'm hearing next weekend."

He also said that he had spoken with Kirk's widow, Erika Lane Kirk (maiden Frantzve,) who he said was "devastated."

The first night after the shooting, supporters have created makeshift memorials on college lawns and outside TPUSA headquarters in Phoenix. Flowers, handwritten notes, and candles mark the spots where mourners gathered, often praying aloud or reciting Kirk's own words about faith and patriotism.

In Utah, a vigil at Orem City Center Park and next to Timpanogos General Hospital, where he was taken after the shootings, drew residents who wanted to stand with the students who witnessed the shooting. In Phoenix, the energy was more political, with chants of "thank you, Charlie" breaking out in front of the headquarters he once walked through daily.

One of the most striking details of the developing funeral plan is the transportation of his body. Multiple national outlets report that Kirk's casket was taken from Utah to Arizona aboard Air Force Two.

Vice President J.D. Vance skipped the 9/11 Remembrance ceremony in downtown New York to travel to Utah, where he met the Kirk family. On Thursday afternoon on September 11, Charlie Kirk's loved ones, JD Vance, his wife Osha, and his staff, took the casket to Arizona in the VP plane, in what would be a highly unusual gesture reserved for political figures of historic consequence.

The symbolism is unmistakable: the U.S. government extending the use of an official aircraft to carry the body of a man whose influence came not from elected office but from grassroots activism.

In Washington, President Donald Trump issued a proclamation ordering U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset on September 14. The order covers the White House, public buildings, military posts, naval stations, and U.S. embassies worldwide. State leaders have followed suit, with governors in Texas, Colorado, and Nebraska announcing similar directives. From Capitol Hill to rural courthouses, flags now fly low in Kirk's memory, a visual reminder of how his death has reverberated far beyond the conservative movement.

Yet, for all the symbolic gestures, the family has not set a time or place for the funeral itself. Those close to the planning suggest that announcement will come once the body arrives in Arizona and immediate relatives have gathered. Until then, the vigils continue, and the speculation builds about how large and public the ceremony will be. Given Kirk's stature and the White House recognition of his passing, many expect the funeral to be attended by top Republican leaders and covered by national networks.
