The Mexican series "Not Really On Purpose" ("Sin Querer Queriendo"), about the life of Roberto Gómez Bolaños , better known as "Chespirito," premiered this week in the United States on the MAX platform.
While in Mexico , the stars and Chespirito's own family (some of his children are part of the cast) held a press conference and promoted the production at full speed, fans of the legendary Mexican comedian, screenwriter, and producer seem to have been oblivious, and with good reason. Local and national news about the series is sparse, if not practically nonexistent.
In fact, this reporter only found out it was available to stream on MAX when she was looking for something else to watch. While there's a chance the U.S. promotional campaign north is planned for the coming weeks, it's been a wasted opportunity. Fans of shows like El Chavo del Ocho and El Chapulín Colorado haven't had the chance to support the series.
Who stars in the Chespirito series?
The protagonist of Sin Querer Queriendo is Pablo Cruz, a Mexican actor who has confessed to not having grown up watching Chespirito on television, but who became deeply involved in the life of the iconic Gómez Bolaños.
"My heart swells with happiness and joy knowing that so many people will be able to share this, knowing that they love him, admire him, and that with this story they will appreciate him even more," she said in an interview with ¡Hola!.
With him are Bárbara López, Graciela Fernández and Roberto Gómez Fernández, Chespirito's oldest son, who plays his father in the series.
The controversies surrounding the series are also reflected on the production, as some of the names of the main characters have been changed for legal reasons.
