Chinese media outlets slammed the U.S. on Sunday over its rejected resolution and cited the failed United Nations Security Council vote to a larger challenge -- the growing conflict between the U.S. and its European allies.

Terming the failure as “Pompeo humiliation,” the Chinese state media predicted that the U.S. will become more isolated, given how the Trump administration has been at loggerheads with the international community as far as the Iranian policy is concerned.

Secretary of state Mike Pompeo expressed his displeasure at the UNSC after the security council turned down U.S.-led arms embargo effort against Iran. “The Security Council's failure to act decisively in defense of international peace and security is inexcusable,” said Pompeo in a statement released on Friday.

The Friday vote witnessed a monumental failure after having amassed just two votes, in place of a minimum requirement of nine, out of the 15-member UNSC to pass. 11 members of the council expressed their lack of support, while key U.S. allies the U.K., France, and Germany took a step back.

“The Global Times,” an English tabloid published by the Chinese Communist Party carried an opinionated piece that suggested how the U.S. must be prepared for intense conflicts in the future until the country changes its stance.

Majid Takht Ravanchi, Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the U.N, took to twitter to ascertain how the unilateralism will backfire. “The result of the vote in #UNSC on arms embargo against Iran shows—once more -- the US' isolation. Council's message: NO to UNILATERALISM. The U.S. must learn from this debacle. Its attempt to 'snapback' sanctions is illegal, and was rejected by int'l community, as was evident today.”

Thinking along similar lines, an opinion column published by CGTN, a state-owned English-language television channel based in Beijing, stated: “Once again, the limits of the Trump administration's highly unilateral and aggressive foreign policy are being exposed. The White House believes that it has a right to simply ignore the rest of the international community when it is in the interests of America to do so and impose its will on others. This has been the pinnacle of its entire Iran policy for the past two years now.”

The columnist reiterated that irrespective of the extent to which Pompeo works toward “demonizing and smear the country, the need to sustain the JCPOA [Iran nuclear deal] for world peace and stability will eventually lead to a path where a nuclear Iran is a reality.

"The ban on H-1B visas, which are often used to fill very niche positions that are not easily found in the American workforce, will ultimately prove to be counterproductive and is an example of using a nuclear bomb to address a bar fight," said Leon Fresco, a former deputy assistant attorney general in the Obama administration who now represents H-1B workers.
