Hunter Biden's recent return to social media has sparked a wave of speculation about his political future, including an unlikely but increasingly discussed possibility: a run for president in 2028.
The latest fuel for that conversation came this week when political prediction market account Kalshi Politics posted that Hunter Biden had a 14% chance of running for president as a Democrat in 2028. The post quickly went viral, generating nearly a million views within hours and placing President Joe Biden's son alongside names already considered potential contenders for the Democratic nomination.
According to the Kalshi market, California Governor Gavin Newsom remained the overwhelming favorite at 86%, followed by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at 55%. Hunter Biden appeared a distant third at 14%.
The betting odds might seem surprising given that Hunter Biden has never held elected office and has repeatedly said he has no interest in pursuing a political career. Yet his recent media appearances and increasingly combative presence on X have drawn renewed attention from both supporters and critics. Prediction markets reflect trader sentiment rather than actual polling or declared candidacies.
The account's debut message declared, "I'm Hunter Biden. You've never actually heard from me," a statement that immediately generated thousands of reactions and reignited debates surrounding the former first son.
Rather than ignore the attention, Hunter has embraced some of the online chatter.
When critics and commentators suggested he might be positioning himself for a presidential campaign, Hunter responded with characteristic sarcasm, engaging directly with users and leaning into the conversation rather than dismissing it. His online exchanges have become increasingly visible as he attempts to reshape his public image after years dominated by legal battles, addiction struggles and political controversy.
The renewed spotlight follows a broader media comeback for Hunter Biden. He has recently appeared in interviews discussing his father's political career, his own recovery from substance abuse and the intense scrutiny he faced during and after the Biden administration.
Thousands of you have written to me about your recovery since I opened up about mine.

Some Democratic strategists have dismissed the betting market buzz as little more than internet entertainment. Others note that prediction markets often reward novelty and media attention rather than realistic political scenarios.
Still, the idea has proven irresistible on social media.
Memes portraying Hunter Biden as a dark-horse candidate flooded X after the Kalshi post. Some users jokingly dubbed him the "2028 comeback candidate," while others argued that his willingness to confront critics directly has earned him a following among Democrats frustrated by traditional political messaging.
There is currently no evidence that Hunter Biden is exploring a presidential campaign. No campaign organization exists, no exploratory committee has been announced and no formal political operation has emerged around him.
Yet in an era where unconventional candidates regularly dominate headlines, the mere appearance of his name on a presidential prediction market was enough to create a political conversation.
For now, the numbers appear to say more about Hunter Biden's ability to command attention than about any actual White House ambitions. But as his social media presence continues to grow and his public profile expands beyond the controversies that once defined him, even long-shot political scenarios are finding an audience.
And if Hunter Biden is bothered by the speculation, he certainly isn't showing it. Instead, he seems content to engage, joke and clap back, keeping the conversation alive one post at a time.
