Critics' Choice Movie Awards 2014
Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón and his film "Gravity" swept at the Critics' Choice Awards, and Mexican born actress Lupita Nyong'o wins for "12 Years A Slave." Wireimage

The Critics' Choice Movie Awards 2014 was honored the best in film and the big winner of the night was Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón and his film "Gravity." The movie took home seven awards out of ten it was nominated for including Best Director, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Sci-Fi Movie. Mexican cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki, also took the award for the hit movie, while Sandra Bullock won in the Best Actress In An Action Movie category. One of the big surprises of the night was in the Best Supporting Actress category that Mexican born Lupita Nyong'o took for her work on "12 Years A Slave," which also won Best Picture.

Earlier in the day Alfonso Cuarón found out he was nominated for an Oscar and was grateful for the recognition. "Thank you Academy for this incredible recognition," he said in a statement. "These nominations are not just about single achievements, but rather the collective effort of hundreds of dedicated artists who made this dream a reality. On behalf of everyone involved with Gravity I want to express our deepest gratitude to the industry, the exhibitors and the public for embracing this film so passionately. A special thank you to our friends and collaborators at Warner Bros. for staying on board this journey for more than four years."

Alfonso Cuarón's "Gravity" has been a favorite amongst critics and nabbed the top award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and tied with Spike Jonez' "Her" for Best Picture. The Sandra Bullock starring movie also made the helmer of the project a winner as Cuarón won as Best Director. Other awards honoring the sci-flick were for Best Cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki and Best Editing by Alfonso Cuarón and Mark Sanger. The Mexican director also won an award from the New York Film Critics Online for his directorial work. Boston Critics gave a mention to Lubezki for his Cinematrographic work on the space movie too. It's going to be a great season for everyone involved in the production of "Gravity" as it has been critically acclaimed. Washington D.C.
