Decorated English Teacher Charges For Allegedly Raping Student

A teacher who was once nominated for “Teacher of the Year” ended up getting arrested after she reportedly raped one of her students aged 15.

The suspect was identified as Amanda Doll, a former West Johnston High School teacher. The 37-year-old woman was arrested by deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina on Friday, Sept. 2, and made a court appearance on Tuesday, Sept. 6, ABC 11 reported.

She was ordered to stay in custody instead of a $1 million bail payment. Despite pleas made by the 37-year-old woman to lower the bail so she could be with her kids, a judge refused the request.

It was reportedly in May 2021 when Doll started as a substitute teacher for the Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS). She was terminated only on Friday.

Per court documents, Doll allegedly preyed on an unnamed 15-year-old student during his time at the school.

"Although we cannot discuss the specifics of an investigation into alleged staff misconduct, we can confirm that whenever such allegations arise, our administration responds swiftly, by investigating the allegations and, sometimes, by removing staff from classrooms pending completion of a thorough review,” the JCPS said in a statement.

"School administrators are always able and willing to speak with any and all parents who may have concerns."

Doll is expected to appear again in court on Sept. 22.

Among those shocked to learn about Doll’s arrest included one freshman from the school.

"She was my English teacher," Leonardo Delaguila, a freshman at the school, said. "It was just weird because I was just being taught by somebody who did something like that. It just felt strange."

However, it turns out that Doll’s case was not the first time that such an incident had happened in the school. There were past crimes that happened such as the one in 2010 that involved a band director.

"Well I'm definitely glad she's not here anymore, but it definitely makes me worried about the other teachers here," Carly Weeks, a junior student, said.
