Former congressman and convicted sex offender Anthony Weiner declared that "women are crazy about me" during a podcast appearance this week, despite his past conviction for sexting a minor and current registration as a sex offender.

Anthony Weiner's political downfall began in 2011, when a lewd image he posted to Twitter spiraled into a sexting scandal that forced his resignation from Congress.

Over the following years, Weiner was embroiled in multiple similar controversies, culminating in a 2017 guilty plea for sending sexually explicit messages to a 15-year-old. He served 21 months in federal prison and is now a registered sex offender.

On Wednesday, Weiner appeared on comedian Adam Friedland's YouTube show, where he downplayed the impact of his scandal and jokingly attributed the media frenzy to his last name.

"I'm a guy named Weiner who tweeted out a picture of his d---," he said. He also claimed that, in today's media environment, his scandal would barely make headlines. In a moment of bravado, Weiner responded to a question about political power and attractiveness by saying, "Women are crazy about me."

Weiner is currently running in the Democratic primary for New York City Council's District 2 seat, representing Manhattan's East Side. His appearance on the podcast sparked renewed backlash online, with critics pointing to his lack of remorse and continued attempts to reenter public life.
