A drunk man who was not happy with the food that his mother and teen sister had cooked for him allegedly shot them dead at their home in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, India on Wednesday, Oct.13.

The accused, identified as 24-year-old Manjunath Haslar, a resident of Kodagu village allegedly murdered his 42-year-old mother Parvathi Narayana Haslar, and his 19-year-old sister Ramya Narayana Haslar after a heated argument over not cooking tasty Sambar ( a lentil-based vegetable stew).

Manjunath was arrested without incident on Thursday, Oct.14, police said.

According to the police, the accused, who's known to be an alcoholic, came home drunk on Wednesday night and asked his mother to serve him dinner.

He was not reportedly happy with the taste of the sambar his mother and sister had cooked for dinner, police said.

Angered by this, Manjunath got into a heated argument with his mother and began verbally abusing her. When his sister tried to intervene, Manjunath allegedly slapped her and pushed her against a wall.

The accused also opposed his mother's plan to take a loan to buy his sister a cellphone for her online classes. He argued it was unnecessary and that he wanted the money to start a business.

However, the mother who knew about her son’s alcohol addiction feared he would spend all the money on his lavish lifestyle.

Parvathi reportedly told Manjunath that he was no one to tell her what to do with the money and was adamant about buying the phone for her daughter.

In a fit of rage, Manjunath grabbed a country-made gun that was lying at the house and opened fire at his mother. Parvathi fell onto the floor and died on the spot.

After killing his mother, Manjunath reportedly turned the gun on his sister and fired two rounds.

The shocking double murder came to light when the accused's father returned home and found his wife and daughter lying unresponsive in a pool of blood with gunshot injuries.

His screams alerted the neighbors and the police were called to the home. Emergency services and police officers responded to the home and pronounced the mother and daughter dead.

Their bodies were sent to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy and later handed over to their family for performing their last rites.

The police arrested Manjunath and charged him with the murder of his mother and sister. The Karnataka police are investigating the incident.
