At some point in our lives, we’ve heard about the show “El Hormiguero” (The Anthill). It’s a Spanish TV show with a live audience, focusing on comedy, science and politics. Segments on the show included scientific experiments, a satirical rap, commentary on current events, and humorous phrases as spoken by children. Other segments include magazine reviews, parodies of other media and celebrity guests, national and international. Special guests on the show are involved throughout the episode, including taking part in the various stunts and science experiments.

The show is extremely popular and now it’s coming to you in a more “digestible” version for this side of the world. Mauricio Mancera will take the lead, hosting along the two famous ants, which received a name change and now go by Pichas and Cachas on this Mexican version that will also be broadcasted in the United States. “I’m a big fan of Spain’s ‘El Hormiguero,’” Mancera said to Latin Times. “I would always watch it and I never even thought that I could be leading this new broadcast. Now that I have this opportunity I’m beyond excited and thankful and ready to air in Mexico and the US.”

Starting July 15 on Azteca América, Mauricio will show this hemisphere that he has what it takes to make your nights an affair to remember! From Monday through Thursday at 10/9 Central, we’ll see the world and learn about the news in a funny way, and we’ll get the chance to see our favorite celebs put through different challenges. “We respect Spain’s format as well as the profile of our collaborators,” Mauricio added. “Obviously, this version is ‘Mexicanized’ to our humor and customs and what we like to see on TV and eventually we will be introducing new sections but so far it’s the same format.”

“It’s been a lot of work, especially with the experiments. The science team works a lot, almost 24/7, coming up with experiments and trying them before the show to make sure everything goes on according to plan. We decided to rehearse the shows at least six times before going live and nailing the times of each section has been the most challenging part, but so far everything looks great.”

Although the show is an hour long, Mauricio and his spend the whole day in the studio preparing everything down to the littlest detail. “I think this is a very complete show, super fun, different to what we’re used to seeing on TV, and it has absolutely all the ingredients to become a tradition amongst Latino families in Mexico and the US. It can entertain from the youngest one to the oldest of the family.”

As for Mauricio, we’re pretty sure he’ll do a great job. “Ever since I found out I was among the candidates to host ‘El Hormiguero,’ I was very excited and I immediately joined stand-up comedy classes, screenwriting, improv, etc, in case I was the chosen one,” he said. “I wanted to be fully prepared to have an outstanding performance. I’m extremely happy but it has been a long process. We’ve been planning this for over a year and now that we’re so close to premiering, it’s nerve wracking. You feel a lot of responsibility, but above all it’s all joy for being a part of this project.”

This week’s line-up consists of Mexican Boxer Juan Manuel Márquez, Spanish singer Bebe and Criminal Minds actor Matthew Gray Gubler. “I would like to ask everyone to give us the chance of entering your homes for at least one night, because I’m sure you’ll want more,” encouraged Mauricio. “It’s a very cool project, well thought of, a show that’s 100% for families, funny, different, you will hardly find anything like this in another show, and it has all the right things to bring families together at least for an hour a day.”
