Elon Musk admitted his posts about President Donald Trump "went too far" during their public fallout last week, but his contrition is not expected to put him back in Trump's good graces.

During an appearance on MSNBC's Morning Joe Tuesday, former Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo said that despite Musk's public regret, there's little appetite in the White House or among congressional Republicans to welcome him back.

Asked if Musk's late-night X quasi-apology had any impact, Curbelo replied, "I don't think so."

"A lot of congressional Republicans have kind of dismissed this as Elon Musk getting emotional, getting a little too heated about his breakup with the White House," Curbelo continued.

Musk acknowledged that his comments during his anti-Trump tirade "went too far," but he didn't specify which ones, though he has deleted some. The conflict began with Musk's fervent criticism of Trump's "big, beautiful bill," a rift that escalated dramatically with threats and accusations, culminating in Musk accusing Trump of appearing in the controversial Epstein Files.

"He did create a lot of chaos in the White House, did overstep his authority and get into other people's turf," Curbelo noted of Musk's work at the White House leading DOGE. He recalled a tense Cabinet meeting where Secretaries Marco Rubio and Sean Duffy confronted Musk and the president sided against his billionaire ally.

While Musk may be signaling a desire to make peace, Curbelo suggested the feeling is not mutual: "Everyone's kind of happy to see these two go their separate ways."
