An American Airlines flight was grounded and forced to land in Texas on Tuesday after an unruly passenger erupted into a hysterical rant during the flight, nearly a week after a man was charged with punching a flight attendant in the face.

Flight 1295, which left Miami and was on its way to Los Angeles, was forced to ground itself in El Paso due to a “disturbance” brought about by an “unruly” passenger, before unloading said passenger to the local authorities and continuing its flight as planned, according to the Daily Beast.

While authorities and officials from American Airlines have kept quiet regarding the source of the passenger’s unruliness, a traveler in the flight revealed that the passenger was yelling about repentance before the flight attendants were able to restrain her before she got violent.

“All of a sudden, we heard screaming coming from the back, and a flight attendant was saying to a passenger, like, ‘Are you in danger? Is anything going on? Are you OK?’ And she said, ‘No, we’re all gonna die. Repent, repent!’” the traveler said.

“She started out talking in a regular voice, then she started yelling, ‘Redemption is coming! Redemption is coming!’ … That’s it. She didn’t say anything else.”

After being restrained, an off-duty police officer sat next to the woman as the attendants tried to calm her down. When the flight was grounded, firefighters reportedly inspected the plane to ensure that there were no explosives in the vehicle.

It is unclear if the woman has been charged with any crime for her actions, or if she is still being held in El Paso.

This incident comes as a man who flew from Mexico to California last week on an American Airlines flight found himself charged with interference with flight crew members and attendants after punching a flight attendant in the back of the head, Today reported.

Alexander Tung Cuu Le, a 33-year-old man from Westminster, California, was caught on video having sucker-punched a flight attendant in the back of the head, prompting many of the passengers to scream “Oh my God!” in shock, though this did not prevent the plane from arriving to its destination.

Le reportedly attempted to get coffee from the attendant during the flight, and had held her left shoulder before taking a hold of her body to get her attention, which caused her to put up a “defensive position” against him. After punching the attendant he attempted to flee in the plane before other passengers helped the attendants restrain him.

“Acts of violence against our team members are not tolerated by American Airlines,” the company said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with our injured flight attendant, and we are ensuring that they and their fellow crew members have the support they need at this time.”
