‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 4 Episode 2 Spoilers: See Royal Wedding Photos From ‘The Lion And The Rose’!

“Game of Thrones” premiered its fourth season last night on HBO, and in addition to recapping fans on the action in Westeros that occurred in Season 3, the series introduced new characters and some intense situations. The stakes will only get higher as Season 4 continues, most notably beginning with episode 2, “The Lion and the Rose,” which will feature the marriage between King Joffrey Baratheon, and Margaery Tyrell. The ceremony, which has been dubbed “The Purple Wedding” by fans of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series, will essentially join two of the most powerful houses in Westeros, the Lannisters and the Tyrells.

“Game of Thrones” show runners it seem to be upping the ante with the “Purple Wedding,” to create an incredibly long and in-depth scene, which reportedly will take up half of the entire episode. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed to Hitfix, that the Royal Wedding was an opportunity for an unusually long scene, something “Game of Thrones” hasn’t yet dabbled in. “The long scene you mention struck as a rare opportunity,” the pair admitted when questioned about the one scene that takes up half an episode. “For us it’s fun to see characters who normally occupy separate storylines collide like charged particles in an accelerator. What if Cersei met Brienne? What if Loras bumped into Jaime?" According to HBO, “The Lion and the Rose” has a run time of 52 minutes, meaning that the wedding, more specifically we are assuming, the wedding feast, will compromise nearly 26 minutes of this episode.

The wedding feast will be a grandiose affair set in the Red Keep. Cersei meticulously plans the entire menu, which features 77 dishes for dinner. While HBO has released some exclusive sneak peek pictures of “The Lion and the Rose” none of them truly showcase the celebration following the ceremony in Baelor’s Sept, but we do get to see the “happy” couple’s first kiss, and of course Margaery’s wedding dress, which is surprisingly conservative but beautiful.
