Sony announced that that "KAZ: Pushing the Virtual Divide" official Gran Turismo documentary will be released January 22 on Hulu. Named after Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, "KAZ" shares the incredible journey of Yamauchi's career as well as the founding of Polyphony Digital, the studio responsible for creating the Gran Turismo video game.

The release of Gran Turismo 6 coincided with the video game franchise's 15th anniversary. After a decade and a half of passion for cars and racing, the Gran Turismo series has effectively evolved beyond video games. Now, Gran Turismo holds a heavy influence over the automotive industry as its Vision GT concept enables manufacturers to design incredible one-off concepts strictly for the video game.

Gran Turismo also demonstrated its motorsport relationship when Red Bull Racing's chief technical officer Adrian Newey designed the Red Bull X2010 Experimental race car for Gran Turismo 5. What's more, the GT Academy gives talented Gran Turismo drivers a chance to race for a team in real life.

In the tuner world, Gran Turismo hands the most prestigious awards at SEMA as the winner will get to see their cars in the next Gran Turismo video game. Of course, Gran Turismo's highly advanced algorithms allow players to upgrade and modify production cars in the game to achieve higher levels of performance.

"KAZ: Pushing the Virtual Divide" is directed by short-film director Tamir Moscovici and shot by acclaimed "Avatar" cinematographer Anthony Arendt. "KAZ: Pushing the Virtual Divide" was developed over a year and was filmed in about a dozen places around the world.
