Gamers are venting their frustration — and resignation — following the official delayed release of Grand Theft Auto VI.
In a statement shared Friday, Rockstar Games scrapped the planned fall 2025 launch, pushing the release date to May 26, 2026.
"We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.
With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve."
Fans have expressed disappointment, but also a lack of surprise.

"Did anyone really believe it would make its 2025 release?" an X user wrote. Others reacted more emotionally, like the fan who said, "THIS WAS INEVITABLE AND I AM STILL SO MAD."
Some were willing to accept the delay if it would make the game better. one comment read. "Just don't let it launch half-cooked."
The last game in the wildly successful series, GTA V, launched 11 years ago and remains enormously popular today. Last year, it was the most watched game on Twitch.
GTA VI, set in a reimagined Vice City and featuring the franchise's first female protagonist, remains one of the most anticipated titles of the decade.
