Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, is often compared with her mother-in-law, Princess Diana. It cannot be helped as the two share a lot of similarities. The most obvious similarity would be Kate Middleton’s fashion taste. Kate is channeling Princess Diana for good reasons.

Kate has been under scrutiny ever since her engagement to Prince William. After being officially inducted as Duchess of Cambridge, Kate instantly transformed into royalty. She became a fashion icon overnight. Her every dress and every move are always being followed and captured, just like the late Princess Diana.

It is noticeable, though, that Kate dresses in a similar way as Princess Diana, and fashion critics say that Kate’s best-dressed moments are those times she copied Princess Diana’s style.

While the Duchess of Cambridge always stuns with her fashion sense, she is still getting some criticisms for it. One says Kate is desperately trying to create an image similar to Princess Diana’s. Some even called her a “Copy Kate.”

According to fashion psychologist Dawnn Karen, Kate mirrors Diana to better her image. “We will begin to perceive Kate in Princess Diana's likeness, that she's for the people, she's caring,” she said. “It's a beautiful comparison, and it's not like it's apples and oranges,” she added.

Kate Pays Respect To Princess Diana

It may be true that Kate is drawing her fashion inspiration from Princess Diana, but it’s likely for good reasons — and one would be to pay tribute to her husband’s late mother. After all, Princess Diana is the people’s princess. Another reason could be that Kate wanted to bring back Princess Diana’s legacy, at least through her clothes.

People remembered Princess Diana immediately after seeing Kate’s floral Erdem dress, which she wore at the 100 Women Hedge Funds gala in 2015. Princess Diana wore a Catherine Walker floral asymmetric red ensemble in Paris in 1988.

Although there are some similarities between Kate and Princess Diana, “British Vogue” editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman explained the difference between the two. According to her, while Princess Diana lives and breathes the celebrity lifestyle, Kate dresses like one but is more of a mother and prefers the countryside.
