A yet-to-be-identified soldier has been arrested after he reportedly killed and stole the car of a businessman who gave him a ride on Sunday, May 23 at Eleme Junction in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. The soldier allegedly begged the man for a ride to Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom state.

According to reports, the motorist offered to give the soldier a ride on Sunday and was unaware that it would lead to his death. When they reached an unspecified area, the soldier attacked the businessman and then dumped his body. The corpse of the businessman was discovered by local police and was immediately brought to a mortuary.

"The incident happened on Sunday; a motorist offered a serving army officer a ride in his vehicle, not knowing that he was going to kill him. They got to place, the army officer attacked and killed him and after killing him dumped his corpse by the way side," a witness claimed.

After killing the unnamed businessman, the soldier reportedly fled with the vehicle. The family of the deceased sought the help of police in Ikot, Abasi to track down the killer and the vehicle. They managed to track down the suspect since the car had a tracking device installed at Ukanafun LGA.

Police surrounded the area where the soldier and the vehicle were found and were able to arrest the suspect. Aside from the vehicle, recovered was an AK-47 rifle according to an unnamed source.

The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the command, Odiko Macdon. They have yet to reveal the identity of the arrested soldier.

“The matter is still under investigation, we are trying to get report and determine the Identity of the person involved,” Macdon stated.
